BreathIn

App Development
Brief
The BreathIn application has been developed with the intention of offering users a range of mindful meditation sounds, which serve as valuable aids for managing stress, improving sleep, enhancing meditation experiences, and fostering concentration. This project was a collaborative effort, encompassing distinct responsibilities for each team member. I actively engaged in brainstorming sessions alongside my partner, while personally assuming the responsibilities of conducting user research, creating prototypes, and executing user testing. My partner, on the other hand, dedicated their efforts to the coding and implementation of the application.
"How might we develop strategies to support users in maintaining focus during times of stress?"
Problem
Anxiety disorders have emerged as the prevalent form of mental illness, impacting approximately 40 million adults in the United States, constituting 18.1% of the population. Findings from surveys indicate that work-related stress is the primary source of stress and anxiety among adults. The excessive burden of worry and stress further hampers the ability to achieve restful sleep throughout the night. Moreover, sleep deprivation can exacerbate anxiety symptoms, leading to a detrimental cycle characterized by insomnia and anxiety disorders.
Goal
Develop a mobile app that empowers individuals to effectively manage their anxiety by providing accessible and practical tools and resources.
Persona
I developed personas that accurately represent our target demographic: individuals who frequently experience anxiety attacks and struggle with sleep difficulties. These personas were carefully crafted to encompass the background, goals, personality traits, and specific scenarios where the BreathIn app would greatly assist them in managing stress effectively.
User Journey
In order to demonstrate a potential user interaction with the BreathIn app, I developed a comprehensive user journey. This user flow encompasses the entire trajectory, starting from the user's initial entry into the app and concluding with their eventual exit.

This approach provided me with a lucid comprehension of the essential key frames that need to be incorporated while constructing the wireframes for my prototype.
Ethnographic Study
I used the POEMS method to conduct observational study on the specific users. This is a great observational framework that allows me, the researcher, to understand and observe the people's interactions and struggles with the environment or the tool. By doing this study, I got a good understanding of where and what the user's situation might be and when they would most want to use the app.
